Ghanpur known as Station Ghanpur is a village and mandal in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It was originally called Ganapavaram after the Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva. In turn it has been known as Ganapuram, Ghanapur, and now Ghanpur, taken from Station Ghanpur when Nizam State Railways constructed railway from Secunderabad to Kazipet via Ghanpur.

Station Ghanpur is well known for the temple of Mother. Every year lakhs of people visit this temple and worship her highness, Mother. The mother is worshiped in the name of Agni Durga, one of the forms of Nava durgas. It is believed that she will protect her devotees from all evils.

Ghanpur is also well known for Dr. Columbus, an Italian immigrant, who initially stayed here before building several educational institutions in a nearby village called Karunapuram.

Station Ghanpur was not very much known until Kadiyam Srihari had been elected from this constituency. He has done lots of development and so many good works which brought this constituency onto Andhra Pradesh map.

Features

Ghanpur is a one of the major constituencies in Warangal District. This constituency is well connected with rail and road. There is a small railway station in Ghanpur. In 1999 the Godavari Express train derailed near Ghanpur Station, killing several people including former education minister Devineni Ramana.[1] 16 km from Ghanpur is Zaffargadh. The Government of Andhra Pradesh is converting Ghanpur lake into Reservoir through Devadula Project. This will irrigate thousands of acres of land and provide drinking water.

GMR Jr College is one of the famous Jr College in Warangal district it is located in station Ghanpur.

ZP High School for Girls stood first in District level Science Fair for consecutive two years when Mr. Ayodhya was Head Master. Smt. Sreemathi teacher their Science Teacher and V. Kamalakar Reddy, Prohibition and Excise Inspector and P. Mahender, School Asst. were their mentors.

St. Thomas , the disciple of Christ. who was the first Christian Missionary to India. Who laid down his life in spreading love of Christ to the Indians. Hence,St. Thomas School was established in the Year 1984 under the guidance of Late. Sri. Kothapally Christdas. It began with just 25 students on roll, today we are proud to say that the strength reaching 2200.

Geography

It is on the National Highway 202 connecting Warangal City with Hyderabad.

As part of Devadula Ettipotala Patakam, Ghanpur is the central point for the water distribution among all the villages in the surrounding area.
